Trail Description

This circular walk in the Northeast part of the county passes through beautiful countryside with rolling hills, small villages and windmills, descending briefly to the Lizandro riverbank and the village of Carvalhal, in the county of Mafra. The walk starts by the archaeological museum of Odrinhas, following the pilgrimage path of Fátima to Carvalhal and returns to Sintra using the marked GR11 footpath. The countryside is beautiful, with many flowers in the springtime but can get quite hot in the summer months as there is no shade on the way. A part of the trail is asphalt, though most is country roads and single paths; the descent from the windmills to the river is a quite rocky single-lane path.

Our suggestions
  • Visit the Archaeological Museum of Odrinhas
  • Stop in the village of Carvalhal for a beverage or a bite to eat
Where to Eat & Drink
Retiro do Capitanga

A local restaurant that specializes in grilled fish and meat. The menu is visual (you choose your cut from the vitrine to grill), the produce is fresh, and the price is very accessible! Closed on Tuesdays. Tel 962 881 899

Rui dos Pregos Restaurante

The Odrinhas restaurante of Rui dos Pregos is a part of the famous Portuguese restaurant chain where quality food is affordable. They serve typical Portuguese food and seafood. Tel 219 616 187
