Short Route
The famous Colares Ramisco grapes have an original and unique planting. This route takes you by these vineyards as well as some coastal villages. The starting point of this circular route is the Adega Regional de Colares, the Regional Cooperative Winery of Colares. The trail, though over 15 kms long, is not demanding, as it is mostly flat. It leaves Colares’ center through a pine forest, passing through traditional vineyards, idyllic villages, and hard, sandy cliffs. It also has an option to visit the 16th century round chapel of Janas. Near the starting point you can also find the artisanal beer brewery.
The coastal part of this trail (Azenhas do Mar – Aguda beach) coincides with the long distance foot path GR11. The yellow and red painted markings of this route were reinforced in the summer of 2020.
Right in the beginning/end of this circular walk, you will find this pub&bar with a large variety of artisanal beers, including the award-winning Mag8. Also food and snacks; and a large roof-top terrace. Tel 939 764 438
In the lower part of the village of Azenhas do Mar, this restaurant has some of the best seafood in the region. Closed on Mondays. Tel 214 083 362
A typical village café in the village of Fontanelas, Camacho’s serves the best Prego (thin steak in a bread-bun) in the area! Also on Saturdays, they serve a delicious fish-soup. This is not a restaurant, it is a café, but has perfect food for a tired hiker! Closed on Tuesdays.
