Sintra – only 30 kms from Lisbon and 15 kms from Cascais, at easy reach by train, bus or by car – is a world of its own!
It is recognizable from distance with the colourful Pena Palace on the top of the mountain. Sintra is where the kings lived and spent their summers. This is also where the important people followed the kings. Palaces, monasteries, manor houses and estates adorn the area in spectacular architecture that harmonizes with the exotic and overgrown vegetation. Exotic gardens and cobblestone streets are a part of the scenery along with the vineyards of the famous Colares wines planted to serve the courts.
Sintra’s Cultural Landscape is a Unesco World Heritage Site and capital of Romanticism, since 1995. Some of the main points to visit are Pena Park and Palace, the Moorish Castle, National Palace, Monserrate Park and Palace, Quinta da Regaleira, Queluz Palace, Seteais Palace, the Capuchin Convent… the list goes on.
