Trail Description

This short trail is an excellent way to see the Historic Center as it passes through the narrow cobble-stone streets of Sintra center, climbs just above the main village and descends back to town alongside the Liberty Park. It stays on paved roads and is relatively easy. The views over the village and to the coast are visible from various angles. The path passes by two emblematic Sintra water fountains where people still come from afar to collect water that is said to have medicinal effects: the blue Sabuga fountain in the beginning and the green Moorish fountain near the end of the trail. Though the path does not take you to any specific castle, many of them are within close view.

For a more complete visit of the Historic Center, complement it with the PR5 going to the North-western part of the village, passing by the famous manor houses.

This route is created and maintained by the City of Sintra

Our suggestions
  • Appreciate the town views from the Look-Out point of Ferraria (+38.7962449,-9.3899728) or from above the Liberty Park (+38.796386,-9.385250)
  • Visit the Santa Maria Church (+38.7938126,-9.38494189): Originally from 1306, rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake, the church still has beautiful artwork. Right across from it you can see the house where author H C Andersen spent a part of the summer 1866
  • Visit the Liberty Park: the park hosts a plant population of 410 plants and includes 60 different species. In December it is the venue for Sintra’s annual Christmas Land
Where to Eat & Drink
RAÍZ Sintra

A trendy small lunch/dinner restaurant with a garden esplanade with simple yet tasty food.  Vegetarian options and cocktails. Live music on weekend evenings. Closed on Wednesdays. Tel 219 243 521
